8 items to try while in New Orleans

If you're like most people, food is an important part of your travel! You're excited and anxious to try local dishes, and you've lost a few pounds just so you can afford to stuff your tummy with all of the fixings! Everyone knows that New Orleans has some of the country's best food, and if you've never been before well let's just say you're missing out! For the first time visitors check out the list of the 8 items you should taste while down in the Big Easy.

1. Poboys

This is a given! Poboys are in abundance in New Orleans. They also come in a variety (in case you don't like seafood) : roast beef, hot sausage, ham, turkey...something for everyone! The poboy pictured above came from Superior Seafood yum!

2. Crawfish Bread

Get ready for some amazingly good bread! You will never feel the same way about bread again! Crawfish Bread (made with french bread, crawfish tails, cheese, and an assortment of seasonings) is something visitors don't know they should try! If you happen to luck up and come down for a festival, make sure to try some.

3. Pralines

Sure beignets and king cakes are staple sweets to try, but Pralines are great! These pecan candies can be found throughout the French Quarter, and also come in a variety of flavors. Makes for a good souvenir for relatives back home!

4. White Chocolate Bread Pudding

Again for our sweet lovers, the White Chocolate Bread Pudding is a must-have at Jazz Fest! Sure other restaurants across the country may serve it, but everything taste better in New Orleans!! photo courtesy of nola.com

5. Rolling Fatties

Voted one of the best food trucks in New Orleans, Rollin' Fatties, is definitely a must-try if you are into into Mexican style food! From "fattie" burritos to rice bowls, this food truck can be found on Tulane Ave by the medical center during lunch time & around the bywater at night. Photo Courtesy of nolafoodtrucks.com

6. Oysters

If you are a seafood goer, this is a must. There is no way you should leave without trying oysters (fried, raw, chargrilled) however you like them, try them. Chargrilled are the best after fried! What's even better than trying oysters at a restaurant like Drago's or Acme, is trying them right off the streets! Late at night you can find an oyster man grilling oysters throughout the city; it's okay to try them!

7. Etouffee

Like poboys, etouffee comes in a variety, from crawfish to shrimp and even catfish! This spicy dish is certainly different from anything you've had back home! Photo courtesy of Cajun Crawfish

8. Crawfish

Last but certainly not least, boiled crawfish!!!! Boiled and seasoned to perfection (oh yes they are packed with cajun flavor!) if you are in town during crawfish season please get a pound or two! A pound of crawfish and a cold beer is all you need!
