America's Best Fried Chicken

A staple of the south, fried chicken, is cooked to perfection in many different ways. From beer battered, to cajun-seasoned you can pretty much find fried chicken cooked a variety of ways. Recently, we had the chance to try America's Best Fried Chicken at a restaurant recommended by our own JSD Tiffanie.

We had the pleasure having lunch at Willie Mae's Scotch House in New Orleans! This family owned restaurant has been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network for serving up some of the best fried chicken! So it was only right as foodies that we have lunch here! Located in the Treme area of New Orleans, the atmosphere almost feels like you're eating at your grandmother's house. There is seating in the front as well as in the back where the bar area is. But be ware, it will get crowded in there quickly--as they are well known throughout the city. (They recently opened up a second location on St. Charles).

As far as the menu, well the most popular item is their America's Best Fried Chicken. You get 3 pieces of dark meat (extra charge for white) plus a side. The sides are plentiful and delicious so it may be hard to choose one! We recommend the Red Beans & Rice and the Mac & Cheese. Mac & Cheese was a little spicy so make sure you get some of their fresh squeezed lemonade to cool your palette!

What made this chicken so good, was that it wasn't overly spicy (like some dishes tend to be in NOLA). It had the right amount of flavor and didn't need any extra doctoring up. Well, unless you like to put hot sauce on everything! It came out hot & fresh, fried to perfection. Words can't even describe how much we enjoyed our lunch as well as the hospitality of the waiters/staff. So for your next trip down to NOLA, put Willie Mae's on your itinerary!
